My Father’s Arms

My Father kneels at the door, with waiting arms;

I’ve come to visit, seeking safety from all alarm.

I search His eyes, wondering if He recognizes me;

It’s been some time since I’ve sat at His knee.

He lifts me up and swings me around;

“Daughter,” He asks, “Do you hear my heart’s sound?”

“What do you mean?” I ask of Him;

“Your thoughts were surely on the rest of them!”

As I look closely at His face,

I notice a tear has left its trace;

“Why do you weep when I ask You this?

  “Daughter,” He replies, “It’s You that I miss.”

He holds me close ’til I can barely breathe;

He begs me to sit and never leave.

“But Father, I have so much to do;

Let me go, You know it’s all for You!”

He looks at me, lowering His head;

Nail-scarred hands, tainted with red.

   “I never asked you to do all those things;

      Surely you’ve forgotten by grace your soul sings!”

“But Daddy,” I protested, “I’ve fallen again;

     “Daughter,” He declares, “Jesus has covered that sin!

      Now sit awhile and learn of Me;

      Lay your burdens down and you will be free!”

As time flies by I turned to go;

My journey ahead I do not know.

“Trust in Me,” Daughter, “I will be with you.

       Just call on Me and I will see you through.”

I cling to His Words, with new zeal for today.

“Don’t forget, my dear Daughter, I AM The Way!”

MT 11:28 – 30 (NKJV) reads, “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.  For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”
