Silent Night or Noisy Night?

“Silent Night, Holy Night–All is calm, all is bright!” Or is it? I heard the familiar Christmas carol in the midst of my devotional time after a night of chaotic dreams.  None of those dreams made any sense to me. In fact, after two nights of restlessness, I knew it was time to turn my attention to the One who wanted my devotion. As I began to focus on the song in my head, tears began to stream down my face, and I felt the presence of my Father, reminding me that He loved me and that He was in control.

I had sung that familiar song since I was a little girl and had always considered it my favorite Christmas carol. I loved thinking about the awesome moment when our Savior was born, everything so still and beautiful. How could one not cherish that moment! Yet, this morning God was saying something more to me. He was inviting me to worship in an atmosphere of reverential love and cleansing admiration. I needed to have my own silent night (and day).

What about you? Do you have a favorite Christmas carol? Is it just a lovely song you enjoy singing, reminding you of that special day when Jesus was born? I would venture to say your song may be the key to unlocking a corner of your heart that needs our Father’s touch. Hear Him sing to you. See yourself sitting or kneeling at His feet. Feel His hand on your shoulder as He gently reminds you that He is in control. Don’t sing another Christmas song out of tradition. Allow the lyrics to breathe life into your spirit. Jesus is just a song away. Take time to enter His presence in this season, again and again.

When you go into the malls, rejoice! When you awake at night with a familiar carol echoing in your ear, know that God is calling you to a Silent Night, or to Deck the Halls with praise, or to be his drummer boy, announcing He is Alive! Don’t let another day go by without celebrating our God! Let all the world rejoice–He’s Alive!

I remind you of a simple, yet profound truth–“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth should not perish but have everlasting life (John 3:16)!” The Lover of our soul sings over us: I want you to have a silent night! It’s more than a song. It’s a breath away!
